Evaluating Guitars
We selected four of the most popular guitars and judged them on sound, ease of playing (how long the average player can use it before getting tired), road worthy (maintaining its set up and tuning during a gig), studio worthy and resale value, “0” the lowest and “5” the highest. *Note these guitars are standard inventory out of the box unless custom made like the Norton®. 1. Ovation® 1) Fender® manufactured its first guitar the Telecaster® in 1951 and has been the benchmark and instrument of choice by professional working musicians and celebrities alike. They perform great adapting to all situations, from gigs to professional recording and are road worthy. Their price range runs the full gamut from several hundred to several thousand dollars. With a variety of solid and hollow body styles, they perform excellently as a smooth seductive jazz, R&B and lead to a screaming hard rock axe. Prices range from the mid hundreds into the thousands. Sound……5 Ease……...5 Road……..4 ½ Studio……5 Resale……4 ½ 3) Norton® a recent player on the scene has a patented unique design, the flexible main frame neck. This allows the neck to be adjusted for maximum comfort. With sixteen designs each is customized to the customers specifications at no extra charge. Preferred among folk and country artist they produce a sound that is distinctly Ovations. This is due to the time involved to make these instruments, which has remained pretty much the same hand crafted skill with the aid of today’s computer technology.
