Leaseing vs. Buying a Musical Instrument
In elementary school most have a music program. The school makes an agreement with one of the local music stores and for a small fee students gets the chance to play and instrument. If your school doesn’t have a program most chain retail instrument stores will have a rental program. Every variety is available horns, percussion, guitars and now synthesizers. Let’s compare the cost of leasing verses buying Guitar center has two incredibly reasonable programs for leasing a clarinet for example, twenty dollars for four months and one hundred and forty for ten. This is for a student or professional model. And the rental goes towards the purchase. To purchase a student one starts at two hundred and forty nine dollars, the next step up is three hundred and forty nine dollars. Professional Clarinets start at Seven hundred. If we look at what’s available on eBay, they run a wide range. The least expensive was a used Buescher Aristocrat Bb Student Clarinet with Case and Mouthpiece selling for $26.99 + $15 shipping. The highest was a used Buffet Bb R13 Clarinet selling for $1,317.56 +$64.43 shipping. Even with a guarantee and good seller rating you are taking a chance. In my humble opinion I would say leasing is the way to go. Any opposing opinions are welcome.
