Biography: Grass
Grass ~ "A band whose music grows like its name."  The name Grass comes from the analogy of music to words like roots, growth, perennial, green belt, cool, soothing, comfort and many other things that make up the properties of the green substance that helps cool the earth, that also jive quite nicely with how music is absorbed and enjoyed by all of us. The original music in this band comes from the front man John Lane, and now has been added to by the addition of David Scott.  Born in Long Beach, Ca., raised in Fallbrook, Ca., John spent years as a student-athlete while noodling around with drums, guitar and songwriting.  Not until he graduated from the University of California, Riverside did John make music his focus.  Grass was co-founded by John in 2012. This band can play anything and has a knack for improvisation in and out of one tune to the next, riveting solos, packing a powerful jamband punch.  From the classic country sounds of Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard, to the blues of JJ Cale, to the improvisational rock of The Grateful Dead, to the heavy Americana / folk of Bob Dylan, to the standard rock favorites of Neil Young and Tom Petty, through the contemporary sounds of John Mayer.  No two shows have the same set lists and the band prides itself on bringing quality shows that people come to see, stay to enjoy, tell a friend about for the next time around and keep coming back.... John Lane - rhythm guitar, lead and backing vocals, songwriter John Michael Le Clerc - lead guitar Duayne Christopherson - Drums Bill Crowder - Bass We are an original band.  We play our original music with covers at our traditional 3+ hour shows and often hear that we blend the two quite nicely.  You are likely to hear our tunes combined with music by or influenced by.... JJ Cale, Johnny Cash, The Allman Brothers Band, Merle Haggard, John Mayer, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Grateful Dead, Phish, Rollling Stones, Doors, Bob Seger, Allman Brothers Band, Marshal Tucker Band, The Cure, 311, and on and on.... “At eight o'clock, opening band Grass (which hails from Temecula Valley) warmed up the audience with its own blues and country rock. Rhythm guitarist / vocalist John Lane was the ringleader of this powerful foursome, which featured some great guitar solos by John Michael Le Clerc and deft but unobtrusive bass lines by Tim Raether. Jeff Gaylor hammered out the drum beats. After a pretty solid 45 minute set, the stage was cleared and The Boxmasters took over -- bringing with them their own brand of country rock, the diversity of Thornton's storytelling, and some poignant messages for the receptive crowd.”
